Using TONE3000 captures on iPhone and iPad
Can I use TONE3000 captures on iPhone or iPad?
Yes. TONE3000 capture files are ordinary files, so you can download them in Safari on the device and open them in a NAM player like iNAM. No computer and no syncing is needed. The file you download on a phone is the same one desktop players use.
Downloading on the device
Open tone3000.com in Safari on the iPhone or iPad, find a capture, and download it. It goes into Files like any other download. There is no separate mobile step and nothing to sync from a computer.
Loading it into a player
From Files, use the share sheet to open the capture in your NAM player. In iNAM that adds it to the library and keeps it there, so the trip through Files is a one-time thing per capture rather than something you repeat every session.
Which captures are worth starting with?
Whatever is closest to an amp you already know the sound of. Captures are named after real hardware, and the fastest way to work out whether a capture chain is set up correctly is to load something whose sound you can predict, then judge it. Starting with an unfamiliar boutique amp makes it impossible to tell a bad gain-staging setup from an unusual amp.
Gain staging matters more than the capture
A capture was trained at a particular input level. Send it something much hotter or much quieter and it will sound wrong in ways that are easy to blame on the capture. If a capture sounds thin or fizzy, the input level on your interface is the first thing to check, before you go looking for a different file.
